PSLE Maths Syllabus in Singapore
Maths is one of the crucial subjects for primary education in Singapore. The Ministry of Education (MOE) has designed the primary maths syllabus in such a way as to lay a solid mathematical foundation that the children need to know from primary 1 to primary 6. The concept ranges from simple addition to algebra. The primary school maths syllabus is structured evenly and appropriately for all levels. This helps the children to learn Singapore maths gradually. The syllabus focuses on three crucial areas.
- Number and algebra
- Measurement and geometry
- Statistics
Note: Students will be introduced to algebra only in the primary 3.
Primary 1 or P1 Math Syllabus
The P1 math syllabus is designed in such a way that the students will be introduced to the starting point or foundation of each math category. Under number, the category includes the following.
- Counting from 1 to 100
- Counting money
- Introduction for maths symbols from addition to division
The other maths concept, the “Measurement and Geometry” category, includes:
- Measuring length using centimetres (cm)
- Identifying the time
- Introduction to 2D shapes from squares to quarter circles
Finally, the concept of “Statistics” includes:
- Reading and understanding picture graphs

Primary 2 or P2 Math Syllabus
The P2 math syllabus expands on students to what they have already learned in the primary 1 maths. Additionally, they will also be introduced to some new concepts as well.
The concept of "Numbers" covers the following:
- Solving math problems using numbers from 1 to 1000
- Introduction to fractions
- Counting and converting money into dollars and cents
The concept of “Measurement and Geometry” covers the following:
- Measuring length using meters (m)
- Measuring mass using kilogram (kg) and gram (g)
- Measuring the volume of liquid using litres (l)
- Telling the time in hours and minutes
- Finding 2D shapes like quarter circles
- Introduction to 3D shapes and the math formulas
The concept of “Statics” covers the following:
- Reading and understanding graphs using scales
Primary 3 or P3 Math Syllabus
The P3 math syllabus includes some concepts learned in Primary 2 maths, and the students will also learn some difficult math problems.
The concept of "Numbers" includes:
- Solving problems using numbers till 10000
- Introduction to equivalent fractions
- Counting money with addition and subtraction
The concept of “MEasurement and Geometry” includes:
- Measuring length using kilometres (KM)
- Measuring liquid volume with millilitres (ml)
- Introduction to angles and lines
- Introduction area and perimeter formulas for the 2D shapes
The concept of “Statistics” includes
- Reading and understanding more about the bar graphs

Primary 4 or P4 Math Syllabus
The P4 math syllabus syllabus increases the level of difficulty. They will also be introduced to some new mathematical concepts.
The concept of "Numbers" includes:
- Solving the problems using the numbers till 10000
- Introduction to factors and multiples
- Expanding on the math problems using fractions
- Introduction to decimals and operations
The concept of “Measurements and Geometry” includes:
- Counting times in seconds and 24-hour format
- Measuring angles in degrees
- Finding the line symmetry
- Finding the area and perimeter for 2D shapes. In particular, squares and rectangles
The concept of “Statistics” includes:
- Reading and understanding table and line graphs

Primary 5 or P5 Math Syllabus
The P5 math syllabus focuses on difficult problems. The students will also be introduced to a number of new concepts.
The concept of "Numbers" includes:
- Solving maths problems using numbers up to 10 million
- Problem using fractions
- Expanding math problems using decimals
- Introduction to ratio
- Introduction to percentage formulas
- Introduction to rate and speed
The concept of “Measurement and Geometry” includes:
- Measuring areas and properties of the triangle
- Measuring the volume of cube and cuboid
- Expanding on the maths problems with angles
- Find the line symmetry
The concept of “Statistics” includes:
- Finding the average of the data set
Primary 6 or P6 Math Syllabus
The P6 math syllabus includes almost all the math concepts that the students have learned from primary 1 to primary 5. Also, this involves the highest difficulty level problems among all the primary levels.
The concept of "Numbers" includes:
- Solving the problems with fractions
- Measuring ratios with fractions
- Expanding math problems using percentages
- Measuring distance, time, and speed
- Introduction to measuring algebra
The concepts of “Measurement and Geometry” in the PSLE Maths syllabus include:
- Measuring the area and properties of the circle
- Visualizing and associating 2D shapes with 3D solids
- Measuring the area and properties of the circle
The concept of “Statistics” includes:
- Reading and understanding the pie charts
